The defending champion Lynnfield boys soccer team started a tad slow in this one, but heated up with three second-half goals to defeat Georgetown, 5-1. Brendan Reilly led the barrage with two goals, while Rocco Scenna, Joel Anthony, and Tyler Maddox also slotted goals.
“We were up, 2-1, at the half and then we scored three in the second half, which was better,” said Lynnfield coach Brent Munroe.

The Pioneers earned a road win on Tuesday, continuing a stellar title defense after last season’s state championship. Lynnfield’s Rocco Schena, frankly, couldn’t be stopped. He scored a goal and provided two assists. Ollie Morgan and Joel Morgan also found the scoresheet for the Pioneers.

Lynnfield faced adversity, but edged Georgetown with three second-half goals. Bella Carroll went home with a hat-trick to lead the offense. She was followed by Emma Rose (goal, 2 assists), Kaylee Barrett (goal), and Bella Sykes (3 assists).
Coach Mark Vermont added that Giada Antidormi and Clara Caulfield played “excellent games in the midfield.”
“It was a great game,” Vermont said. “Georgetown is a good squad and made a lot of good plays.”

Lynnfield’s girls soccer team got the job done on enemy turf as the Pioneers defeated Essex Tech, 5-0, Tuesday evening. Bella Sykes and Kaylee Barrett each scored a brace, while Emma Rose also found the back of the net to cap off a brilliant performance from the Pioneers.

It was a scoreless draw in Ipswich on Monday, but Lynnfield goalie Lauren McDonald registered six saves to steal the show. First-year head coach Kerri Doherty praised Chloe Gromko, Hayden Valiton, and Lily Alves for their defensive efforts.
“Midfield standout play was anchored by Gia Marotta, who set her team up flawlessly on several offensive opportunities,” Doherty said.

One game, six goals for Lynnfield, which took care of business in dominant fashion against Hamilton-Wenham. Pacing the Pioneers were Taylor Valiton (2 goals, 3 assists), Izzy Florentino (3 goals, assist), Cameron Munion (goal), and Lauren Mattia (3 assists).

It was a close match between the Eagles and Catholic Memorial, but St. John’s Prep earned its second win of the season. Seamus O’Holleran scored a team-best 34 (1-under par) to lead the Eagles. Jack Carew and AJ Bodnar both scored 35s in the win.

The Prep (2-0) had its way with Londonderry at Glatz Field, delivering an offensive explosion for the home faithful. Jordan Toribio (2 TD) opened the scoring, and the Eagles flew high from there.
Lynn’s Edwin Castro ran for a touchdown, Chris Vargas connected with Jack Shesterkin for a 43-yard score, and Merrick Barlow also found the endzone through the air. Deacon Robillard completed the scoring late.
CROSS COUNTRY
Lynnfield’s boys team took care of business in Amesbury.
“They braved a tough course with a lot of hills and ended up coming out on top, 25-32. There were a lot of close finishes today that helped put the team over the top,” said Lynnfield coach William Wallace.
The Pioneers (1-0) were led by Shea McCarthy (16:25), who delivered a huge sprint toward the end of his race to beat out Amesbury’s top runner. He was followed by Dylan Nguyen (17:40, 3rd), Nick DeGennaro (18:32, 5th), Liam Gardner (19:24, 7th) and Ashkrit Mahajan (19:50, 9th).
Lynnfield’s girls lost a close one, 25-30, to Amesbury. Gabriella Bottaro led the way with a second-place finish of 21:56.
