The Library Renovation Committee, Board of Trustees, and Tappé Architects hosted its second of two public forums for the proposed library renovation on Sept. 4.
The schematic designs presented at the forum are toward the end of the design process, Charlie Hay, a principal at Tappé Architects, said.
The process has included consultations with engineers and input from library staff and various stakeholders, he said.
If the vote to continue on the renovations project passes at Town Meeting, the project will continue to undergo design development, Hay said.
Jeff Hoover, a principal at Tappé Architects who specializes in library designs, presented the updated rendering of the proposed renovations.
“The plans have evolved to a nice place, and we’re really happy,” with how we are incorporating 21st-century features that are seen in new libraries, he said.
The new rendering includes a proposed multi-purpose room to fit up to 70 people, a larger children’s section, an established teen space, three group study spaces, and will make the building ADA compliant.
Some of the concerns residents brought up included limited parking, energy efficiency and sustainability, and how the landscaping and outdoor spaces will be set up.
Hoover and Hay said these are all secondary aspects of the project to be addressed after the renovations are approved at Town Meeting.
The next step for the Library Renovation Project is for the LRC to assess and finalize the costs, present the costs to the Select Board, and prepare for residents to vote on debt exclusion for the project at Town Meeting.
