Despite a strong second half in which the Lynnfield girls lacrosse team (5-7) outscored host Hamilton-Wenham, 6-4, the Pioneers couldn’t recover from a 13-3 first-half deficit Friday afternoon. The Generals took this one, 17-9.
Taylor Valiton and Ava Damiani led the offense with three goals and one assist each. Hayden Valiton (ground ball, 7 draws) scored two goals and Lily White added another.
“We played the second half to our team’s normal capability, but we made mistakes in the first half that put us in a hole that was hard to come out of,” said Lynnfield coach Christina Serra. “I was proud of the way we dug deep and came back in the second half.”
Serra said Hayden Valiton, Keely Briggs (2 caused turnovers, 3 ground balls), and Maeve Wertz (2 caused turnovers, 3 ground balls) had strong games. Clara Caulfield (4 draws), Maddie Mastrangelo (2 ground balls, assist), and Jordan Calichman (2 draws, ground ball ) also contributed.
Lynnfield’s next game is on the road Tuesday against league archrival North Reading (4:30 p.m.) in a day-night doubleheader with the Pioneers’ boys team (6:30 p.m.) at UMass Lowell’s Cushing Field Complex.
