No home diamond, no problem for the baseball Pioneers, who escaped Triton in eight innings on Saturday, 3-2. Madux Iovinelli (6 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 4 K) came to play on the bump, while Ben Dahlstedt (2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 K) closed things out for the win.
The eighth inning is when the magic happened. Luke DiSilvio singled before stealing a base. From there, Tyler Adamo singled him home with the game-winning RBI.

Lynnfield’s baseball team took care of host Ipswich – and then some – in a 9-1 final. Sophomore Luke DiSilvio (7 IP, 3 H, 4 K, ER, 0 BB) put on a clinic on the bump.
“That was his first varsity win,” said Lynnfield coach John O’Brien. “He has a nice fastball and he’s doing very well.”
Madux Iovinelli led the offensive charge, going 3-for-4 with an RBI double.

The Pioneers dropped to 5-7 this spring (3-5 Cape Ann League) after a tough loss against a strong Newburyport team. Lynnfield only had two hits, both coming from Kaila George who recorded a double and an RBI single.
“Sophia Brown (6 K) pitched well in the loss, allowing three earned runs on eight hits and a walk,” said Lynnfield coach Hector Longo.

It was a happy Friday for the softball Pioneers, who doubled up host Triton and moved to 5-6 on the season (3-5 Cape Ann League).
Sophia Brown (7 IP, 2 ER, 6 H, 0 BB, 5 K) was “brilliant on the mound,” according to Lynnfield coach Hector Longo. The Pioneers were error-free behind Olivia Kelter at second and Julia Corrente at first, while Morgan Hubbard went home with three hits. Ava Gamache (hit, 2 runs) and Kaila George (single, RBI) also came to play.

Lynnfield sophomore Gia Gagnon (5 K) earned her first career varsity win. She went the full five innings in this one, allowing one earned run on six hits and a walk.
At the plate, Julia Corrente tripled twice, while Kaila George and Morgan Hubbard had three hits apiece. Lynnfield sits at 4-6 and 2-5 in the Cape Ann League.

The Eagles took down the Lancers with relative ease, receiving 17 goals from 13 different players. Sophomore Sam Pruell (2 saves) earned his first varsity win in goal. On offense, Ben Merena, Joe Bullard, Jack Quigley, and Logan Hatch all registered hat tricks in the win.

Staples (Westport CT) took advantage of its home turf Saturday, handing the St. John’s Prep laxmen (10-1) their first loss of the season.
“The Wreckers exposed the Eagles in all facets of the game and capitalized on numerous St. John’s mistakes throughout the contest,” said Prep coach John Pynchon.
Jake Vana led the Eagles with two goals. Josh Haarmann added another, while Madden McGowan dished out an assist and Jack Doherty won eight of 15 face-offs.

This one was never in doubt. Lynnfield showed off its explosive offensive attack behind four goals apiece from Will Norton and Mike Murphy. Also leading the way were Kelan Cardinal (3 goals, 3 assists), Owen Considine (goal, 4 assists), and Ben Pimentel (7 saves).

Another match and another clean sweep for Mark Metropolis’ Eagles. St. John’s Prep remains undefeated at 7-0. In second singles, Jack Prokopis beat Andrew Garafoli (6-1, 6-1), while in first singles, John DeAngelis edged his opponent, Chris Curran, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4. The second doubles pairing of Mark McDuffie and Alex Melville cruised past their opponents 6-1, 6-1.
