Lynnfield Art Guild hosts Spring Arts Festival

May 7, 2024 by Richelle Melad

The Lynnfield Art Guild recently hosted the Spring Arts Festival, which created an opportunity for the public and members of the group to showcase their art, interact with artisans and vendors, and speak with town organization leaders.

On the Common, vendors showcased their products for sale such as jams, aprons, wooden kitchen utensils, crocheted stuffed animals, and more. Organizations such as the Lynnfield Veterans’ Services, Lynnfield for Love, the Tree Committee and the Lynnfield Public Library Foundation were also present.

In the Meeting House, artworks by LAG members and Lynnfield High School students were displayed for visitors to see and judged by fellow artists. The paintings of two former LAG presidents, Michael B. Karas’ Where Surf Meets Rock and Helen Malcolm’s Glass Jars and Baskets were also up for bids at a silent auction.

According to LAG Committee Member Beth Aaronson, the silent auction is to commemorate the group’s 60th anniversary. The group began in 1964 with just 10 members to begin with, and within one year, there were over 150 members from all over the North Shore. The group encourages participation from photographers, artisans, potters and sculptors, people who work in mixed media, fabric artists and other types of art.

“I think we tend to be rather traditional but we have several artists who are fabric artists who do amazing creations,” Aaronson said. “We have one woman who makes Mandalas out of paints that are unbelievable. Some of our fabric artists’ works look like paintings, it’s very unique.”

Aside from demonstrations, shows, and other art showcasing opportunities for members, the organization also does demonstrations by artists from all over the world. They also provide scholarships for LHS graduating seniors.

“Most of us are doing it as a passion, and not as a career,” Aaronson said.

“The Guild is grateful for its many supporters, sponsors and volunteers who are making the Arts Festival possible,” a statement from LAG reads.
