Roundup: Baseball hits its way past Hamilton-Wenham

At home against Hamilton-Wenham on Thursday, Lynnfield baseball’s Ben Dahlstedt threw a complete game in the Pioneers’ 7-0 win. In seven innings, he allowed five hits with seven strikeouts and one walk.

David Tracy (2-for-3, run) led the offense with two hits. Tyler Adamo (1-for-4, 2 runs, double), Anthony Grabau (1-for-3, run, double), Owen Mullin (1-for-3), Dylan Damiani (1-for-3, run) and Dahlstedt (1-for-2) also had base hits.

BASEBALL

The Pioneers fell behind 6-0 after five, but rallied to tie the game with six runs in the last two innings. Come the end, however, the Royals walked off with the win with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Madux Iovinelli (2-for-3, run, double) and Nick Groussis (2-for-4, run) led the offense with two hits each. Anthony Grabau (1-for-3, run, triple) and David Tracy (1-for-4, run) also had hits.

“We spotted them six runs and came back to tie the game,” coach John O’Brien said. “We just couldn’t get that hit when we needed it.”

An outstanding effort from Taylor Valiton wasn’t enough to get past the host Sachems Monday afternoon. Valiton (2 ground balls, 2 caused turnovers) scored a season-high nine goals to lead the offense. Sister Hayden Valiton (3 ground balls) chipped in a goal and two assists and Ava Damiani contributed a goal and three assists. Lily White and Jordan Calichman (2 ground balls) added one assist each. Clara Caulfield, Alex Schmidt and Maddie Mastrangelo had two ground balls, while Kayla Santo had a team-high three caused turnovers.

At home Saturday morning, Lynnfield dropped a back-and-forth battle with the Warriors. Hayden and Taylor Valiton led the attack with five goals apiece, while Ava Damiani scored two goals and notched two assists. Keely Briggs (goal), Mastrangelo (assist), White (assist) and Calichman (assist) also contributed.

BOYS LACROSSE

St. John’s Prep 14
Billerica 8

Make it eight games, eight wins for the defending Division 1 champs. The St. John’s Prep laxmen upped their record to 8-0 with a 14-8 road win against Billerica (5-4) Saturday night. Prep coach John Pynchon called it a “breakout” performance from Drew Bossi, who scored four goals and dished out five assists.

“Jack Doherty and Will Crawford were outstanding at the face of X, combining to win 21 of 24 draws,” Pynchon said. “Owen Williamson, Ryan DeLucia, and Nick Schibli played well on defense.”

Cam McCarthy ripped a hat trick, followed by Oliver Rosselli (goal, assist), Ben Merena (goal, assist), Jake Vana (goal), Crawford (goal), Josh Haarmann (goal), Luke Kelly (goal), Madden McGowan (goal), Brendan Powers (2 assists), and Jimmy Nardone (assist). Max Putney saved four of five shots, while Mattheus DuPlessis made four saves on nine shots.

BOYS TENNIS

St. John’s Prep 4
Wellesley 1

St. John’s Prep coach Mark Metropolis checked off his 500th career win at The Prep in his team’s 4-1 win against Wellesley. Luke Free, Jack Prokopis, and John DeAngelis went 1-2-3 in singles.

Malden Catholic 0

The second doubles match was rained out in this one, but The Prep took care of business elsewhere. Jack Prokopis, Luke Free, and John DeAngelis won their singles matches with ease, while Luke Prokopis and Boris Kouzminov dominated first doubles.
The Eagles flew to 5-0 with the win.
