The Lynnfield boys and girls track teams continued their record-breaking ways last week. The boys set three more school records at the MSTCA Division 5 State Relays in Seekonk. As a team, they finished fifth out of 22 teams with 34 points, while the girls finished 20th with 1.38 points.
“This was a very impressive finish in a highly-competitive division,” boys head coach Bill Wallace said.
The triple jump team of Joey Cucciniello (39-04), Nick Kelter (42-0.5), and Eli Mendese (40-05) finished second and set a new mark of 121-09.5.
The 4×100 relay team of Jesse Dorman, Dillon Reilly, Cucciniello and Mitchell finished fourth, breaking the school record for the second time in four days (44.45). The long jump (A) relay team of Mitchell (19-11.75), Cucciniello (19-02.75) and Mendese (19-09) set a new mark of 58-11.5 and finished fourth. The long jump (B) team of Ethan Francis (17-09.5), Reilly (19-04.75) and Kelter (19-04.25) placed fifth (56-06).
Francis (5-06), Mendese (5-10) and Mitchell (5-10) won the high jump relay with a combined height of 17-02.
Other top-10 individual performances were delivered by the following: Dorman, Reilly, Brendan Reilly and Daniel Lemiuex, 10th in the 4×200 relay (1:36.15); Quinn Hardisty, third in the javelin (144-11), Mendese, second in the high jump (5-10); Mitchell, fourth in the high jump (5-08).
Earlier in the week at North Reading High, the team of Ryan DeBenedictis (10-00, fifth), Matthew Squadrito (PR 9-00, seventh) and Dante Ford (PR 8-06, ninth) finished third in the pole vault relay (27-06).
In the girls MSTCA meet, Emilie Bell, Alison Maddocks, Kate Shrewsbury and Chase Carangelo were the top individual performers. Bell finished fifth in the discus (100-00), Abby Lopez finished seventh in the javelin (86-11) and Maddocks, Shrewsbury and Carangelo finished tied for 10th in the high jump (4-05).

The boys weren’t the only Pioneers setting records last week. On April 24, in a 75-65 dual meet loss to Hamilton-Wenham at home, Emilie Bell set a new school record in the discus with a throw of 103-08. She also led a sweep in the shot put (27-03.5) along with Moretti (26-05) and Lopez (23-02).
Shrewsbury (4-04), Maddocks (4-04) and Carangelo (4-02) swept the high jump and Abby Lopez (96-01), Emyrs Klee (66-06) and Elliana Moretti (49-06) did so in the javelin.
Moore won the pole vault (7-07) and Maddocks captured the triple jump (31-09). Greenleaf won the 100 hurdles (17.80).

The boys (2-0) tuned up for the state relays with a solid win against the Generals at home on Wednesday. Mitchell and Jared Bernabei were double winners. Mitchell won the long jump (20-06) and 100 (11.5), while Bernabei secured the shot put (36-07) and discus (111-11). Other winners included Hardisty in the javelin (131-09), Cuciniello in the triple jump (41-06), Mendese in the high jump (5-10), DeBenedictis in the pole vault (9-06), Dillon Reilly in the 200 (24.0), Lemieux in the 400 (56.8), and the 4×100 relay team of Dorman, Dillon Reilly, Cucciniello and Mitchell (school record 44.5).
