St. John’s Prep 5
St. John’s 4
St. John’s Prep’s (1-0) sixth-inning rally was enough to avoid a loss on home turf, beating St. John’s, 5-4.
The Eagles got into an early hole, finding themselves down 3-0 after the first inning. The Pioneers added another run in the top of the third inning thanks to an Andrew Schmit RBI single.
In the bottom of the sixth inning, St. John’s Prep loaded the bases after a James Willett single. Then, it was Gavin Gold who ripped a two-run double to left field to cut the lead in half (4-2).
Still in the sixth inning, Jack DiFilippo doubled to bring two runs in to tie the game 4-4. Prep took the lead a few batters later when pinch hitter Tyler Spear (first varsity at-bat) singled to left field, bringing in Christian Rosa to give the Eagles a 5-4 lead.
Now with a one-run lead heading into the final inning, Braeden Hurley pitched a 1-2-3 inning to earn the Eagles their opening day win.

Triton 6
Lynnfield 4
The Pioneers went down 6-0 after four innings and fought hard, but couldn’t complete the comeback. Lynnfield scored two runs in the sixth and seventh innings, but the early deficit was too much to overcome.
“We struggled early defensively. Four errors led to a 6-0 Triton lead,” said Lynnfield coach Hector Longo.
Lynnfield’s Morgan Hubbard recorded two RBI triples and also scored two runs.
Triton’s reigning Cape Ann League Most Valuable Player, Emma Penniman, registered 11 strikeouts in the win. The ace allowed just four hits.
