For 60 years, the Lynnfield Art Guild has been a force for the arts in the greater community. In celebration of this anniversary, during the May 4th Spring Arts Festival, the Guild is holding a silent auction of art by two presidents from its first two decades. Both framed paintings will be on view during the Festival on Saturday May 4th in the Meeting House with closing bids due by 3 P.M.

Helen Malcolm, Lynnfield Art Guild Co-Founder’s framed oil on canvas “Glass Jars and Baskets” is up for auction with a starting bid of $100. Her work can be found in area hospitals, charities, and private collections. Helen served as the Guild’s first vice president with artist Phil Perkins as the first president in 1964 and Helen succeeding as president in 1965. The Guild’s first art show at the Meeting House in June of 1964 included her paintings. She remained active in the Guild for many years.

“Where Surf Meets Rock” giclee by Michael Karas, President of the Lynnfield Art Guild in 1977, has a starting bid of $200. The artist found his talent as an eighth grader after attending a LAG painting demo at Lynnfield Library. Now a nationally renowned marine and landscape artist, Mr. Karas generously donated this signed and numbered giclee. Recognized by collectors and fellow artists as one of the nation’s finest marine and landscape painters, the extraordinary oil paintings created by Michael B. Karas evolved with passion and self-imposed standards of excellence. More than 3,500 of Mr. Karas’ paintings are in private and corporate collections worldwide. See www.michaelbkaras.com

In addition. notecards of these two items will be available for purchase as well as other donated artworks by LAG members, including tiny art. Look for the Guild booth on the Common during the festival with all proceeds to benefit the Guild.
